Concerns on Artificial Intelligence: UK to host global summit on AI safety

After the recent advancement of Artificial Intelligence that presented unlimited opportunities and also concerns, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday announced to host a global summit on AI safety.
The summit of AI safety will aim to bring key countries, companies and researchers to together to monitor and evaluate the risks.
The UK government says that as AI-enabled a paralyzed man to walk and discovered superbug-killing antibiotics, it now assumes duty for its safe adoption worldwide.

The summit will be on Sunak’s agenda when he will meet US President Joe Biden in Washington DC today to call on countries and companies to develop a framework for AI safety.
The summit is likely to be organized in the UK in autumn this year where risks of AI will be assessed with experts deliberating on how to mitigate these with international cooperation.
A UK government official said Sunak had also flagged the issue of AI safety during the recent G7 meet at Hiroshima in Japan.
In addition, UK Foreign Secretary will also convene the UN Security Council briefing on AI risks for international peace and security.
Commenting on the development, Rishi Sunak said though AI has the potential to transform our lives but it must be ensured that it is done in a safe and secure manner.

“Time and time again throughout history we have invented paradigm-shifting new technologies and we have harnessed them for the good of humanity. That is what we must do again,” he added.
