A tale of utopian world where Israelis and Palestinians live together, Maayan Schwartz’s Children of Peace will be screened NYC Independent Film Festival.
The story holds significance amid conflict between Arabs and Jews in ongoing conflict over Jerusalem, Gaza and West Bank.
The conflict has arisen after Jews who were evading persecution in Europe, sought to establish homeland in mid-20th century.
This led to conflict over the territories of Jerusalem, Gaza and West Bank and till date, lakhs of people have died in conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
Children of Peace promote the idea of co-existence amidst the fighting between Israelis and Palestinians.
The film story revolves around a group of dreamers who founded a village in 1970s Israel as a social experiment to raise Jews and Arabs children together.
It follows the children who are now grown up and have to deal with conflicts after facing harsh realities in world outside the village.
Raised in mixed community, Maayan Schwartz says that the film is now about conflict.
“To me it is a far more a universal story about co-existence between enemies and majority-minority relations.
This village is a rare social experiment and this was a great opportunity to witness the results from a personal, unique and humanistic point of view,” he added.
It is worth noting that NYC Independent Film Festival focuses on filmmakers who produce films individually without any support from major film companies.
The film festival is being held from 4 to 11 June in New York and various independent filmmakers will showcase their movies in the weeklong fest.
