Indian students facing deportation: Canada to find solution to resolve issue

Ottawa

Canadian Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser on Wednesday said the government is seeking a solution to the issue of Indian students admitted with fake admission letters.

It is worth noting that 700 Indian students mostly from the northern state of Punjab were facing deportation after an inquiry found out that their admission offer letters were fake.

In a tweet, Sean Fraser said, “We are actively pursuing a solution for intl students who are facing uncertainty due to having been admitted to Canada with fraudulent college admission letters.

Those who have taken advantage of people genuinely hoping to study here will face consequences for their actions.”

Fraser further stated that innocent students should be given a fair chance to get their cases considered fairly.

Given the complexity of the circumstances, the Canadian government is committed to working with CBSA to find a fair solution, he added.

Earlier on 5 June, Punjab NRI Affairs minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal wrote a letter to Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to intervene and ensure that these students weren’t deported.

The Indian students were reportedly admitted to Canadian Universities with fake admission letters and the scam was uncovered a few months back, leading to authorities starting deportation procedures.

The fake offer letters of admission into Canadian Universities were detected by authorities after Indian students applied for permanent housing in March this year.
