Biofire Smart Gun: World’s first biometric enabled gun unveiled in US

Aiming at preventing unauthorised access and misuse, US based Biofire Technologies on Thursday unveiled world’s first biometric enabled gun, Biofire Smart Gun.
The 9mm Biofire Smart Gun uses fingerprint and facial recognition to ensure that only the owner can use and fire the hand gun.
The gun unlocks immediately in the hands of the rightful owner and they can just pick up and fire it to use it for home defence to protect oneself from external threats.
However, the gun locks if it falls into wrong hands, curtailing misuse which is a major threat in the US these days with mass shootings reported almost everyday.
Kai Kloepfer, Biofire CEO and founder, has started working on the idea after witnessing a mass shooting in Colorado in 2012.
Kloepfer founded the company in 2016 to design the gun to ensure that firearm deaths, especially among children, can be prevented.
As firearm related accidents remain the biggest cause of homicides in the US, the gun could prove to be a game changer as millions of them live in households with unsecured loaded firearms.
“The Biofire Smart Gun shoots like any high-quality firearm, but it also feels like you’re holding the future in your hand.
This is a new era in firearm safety driven by ambition and optimism, motivated by the idea that we can in fact help save people’s lives,” he said in a statement.
The 9mm handgun uses state-of-the-art fingerprint and 3D infrared facial recognition systems that can independently lock or unlock it by identifying the rightful user.
