Biden, Sunak for expediting NATO membership to Sweden

US President Joe Biden on Monday arrived in the UK and met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak where the two leaders agreed to expedite NATO membership to Sweden.
“On broader NATO issues, they (Biden and Sunak) agreed to ensure that Sweden has a swift path to full NATO accession,” a UK government spokesperson said.
The announcement came as NATO Summit is scheduled to take place this week for which Sunak and Biden agreed to strengthen the alliance and extend support for Ukraine.

“British PM and the US President discussed the broader geopolitical context, including in the Indo-Pacific and with regard to Iran.
They also agreed to emphasize friendship and of continuing close dialogue Biden and Sunak have had in the few months,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier, PM Sunak welcomed Biden on his arrival in London and the leaders met at Downing Street to discuss various issues.
Sunak and Biden discuss progress in Atlantic Declaration for economic partnership between Britain and the US.
The two leaders discussed the agenda earlier raised in a meeting at the White House for further action on Critical Minerals Agreement and the Joint Action Group on Energy Security.
They agreed to hold the first high-level meeting in October for further progress on the Atlantic Declaration.
Sunak briefed about the UK’s AI Summit that will be held this year and welcomed Biden’s strong support for the initiative.
