Expressing shock on the horrifying sexual assault on Manipur women that was caught on camera, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday sought exemplary punishment for the accused.
In a statement, Mann said it was unfortunate that the women became the target of such a heinous crime.
This barbaric incident is a huge blot on the conscience of the nation,” he said, adding the incident needs to be condemned by one and all.
The CM said the horrific crime has forced countrymen to hang their heads in shame and the perpetrators should face exemplary punishment to avoid a repeat of such incidents in the future.
“Such offenders do not deserve leniency and they should be dealt with as per the law of land by meting out the severest of the severe punishment to them so that it could act as a deterrent for others too,” he added.
Mann called on the Manipur and Indian governments to ensure that the accused are arrested immediately to give justice to victims and their families.
Punjab CM reiterated his resolve to protect the modesty and dignity of women and said all efforts should be made to secure women’s rights.
He also called on PM Modi to immediately intervene in the case immediately op punish the accused and added PM should focus on controlling the situation in Manipur which is going out of control.
He further said such insane and inhumane acts have no place in any civilized society and the incident should be condemned by one and all.
