Bhagwant Mann announces boycott of new Parliament building opening event, terms it insult of founding fathers
Chandigarh
Terming the neglect of Indian President from invite list as insult to founding fathers of constitution, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday announced boycott of inauguration of new Parliament complex.
The new Parliament complex is set to be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28 May where the tradition of keeping Sengol is being introduced once again.
He accused PM Modi led BJP government of demeaning the post of President Draupadi Murmu by not inviting her to the inaugural event and said it was the reason he had decided not to attend it.
“Whenever the new session of Parliament is called, every MP is invited by the President of India to attend the session.
However, it is ironical that the constitutional head of the government has not even been invited in the function to mark inauguration of the new Parliament, he said while terming it a ‘mockery of constitution’.
Mann called this as unwarranted and uncalled action as the Father of Indian Constitution Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar had underlined basic values for successful functioning of democracy.
“As a part of deep rooted conspiracy, the Modi government is showing grave disrespect to the founding fathers of the constitution by indulging in such tantrums.
The countrymen will never accept it and will teach a befitting lesson to the BJP in the coming days,” he added.
