Bhagwant Mann again accuses ex-CM Channi of taking bribe, presents IPL player as proof

Continuing his tirade against former CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann once again reiterated his claims of Channi’s relative seeking bribes from sportspersons.

This time, Mann came with an IPL player from the Kings XI team, Jasinder Singh, and leveled allegations of demanding a bribe from him in a press conference where he also showed his pictures with the player.

Addressing the media, Mann said Channi’s nephew Jashan had sought Rs 2 crore as a bribe from Jasinder for providing him with a job against the PPSC exam which he had cleared.

“There was an open sale of jobs during previous CM Channi’s tenure which ruined the career of this outstanding player.

Jasinder and his father had even met the former CM during a function in the presence of former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu,” he added.

He alleged that the then principal secretary to CM, Hussan Lal had apprised Channi about the entire case. Though Channi agreed to put up the case in the Cabinet meeting for approval but had asked Jasinder to meet Jashan, probably, for understanding.

However, when Jasinder and his father met him he agreed to fulfill the word of the former CM but in lieu of a Rs 2 crore bribe.

But as the cricketer expressed inability to pay the bribe, he wasn’t given the job.

Bhagwant Mann assured the player of granting him the job after studying his case and as per set norms.

He vowed to initiate legal action against those who ruined the future of the youth by their misdeeds and added ‘anyone who was involved in such acts against Punjab and its youth will not be spared at any cost’.

He took a jibe at Channi’s move of feigning ignorance in the case at Sri Chamkaur Sahib and said he should peep into his conscience before issuing statements as this wasn’t possible without his knowledge.

He added, “Jasinder had narrated his ordeal during his recent visit to Dharmshala after which he had decided to expose the former CM.

On one hand, his government had taken path-breaking initiatives to promote the sports and sports culture in the state but on the other people like Channi had ruined the sports.”
