Australian batsman Travis Head has become the new contender for the top spot in ICC test ranking after his recent success in the Ashes series against England.

Travis Head is closing in on New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson who is currently holding the top spot in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings.

Head has scored 266 runs at an average of 44.33 in the Ashes series against England and his batting form has almost propelled the Aussies to retain the Ashes title for the third consecutive time.

Kane Williamson is presently occupying the first rank in ICC batting ranking with 883 points while Travis Head is closing in with 874 points.

If Head continues to bat in the way he is doing right now in the remaining Ashes series against England, he had the chance to claim the top spot.

Head’s rise in test rankings has propelled Pakistan captain Babar Azam to retain third position with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne securing 4th and 5th rank.

Steve Smith at present has 855 points, Marnus Labuschagne 849 points, Joe Root 842 points while injured Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is still occupying the 10th spot with 758 points.

In bowling rankings, England veteran bowler Stuart Broad has climbed to 6th rank by jumping four places, closing behind Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
