Anurag Verma is the new Punjab Chief Secretary

Anurag Verma, a 1993 IAS officer, on Saturday took over as the new Punjab Chief Secretary from the incumbent CS Vijay Kumar Janjua.

Besides his present charge as Punjab Chief Secretary, Anurag Verma will also continue to hold the charge of Principal Secretary of Vigilance and Personnel departments.

“My top priority will be to ensure clean, efficient, responsive and transparent administration with key thrust on Health and Education for the overall development of Punjab,” Verma told media.

He added ‘major thrust will also be laid on implementing CM Bhagwant Mann-led government’s citizen-centric and development-oriented policies with feedback from the ground level.

Every effort will be made to percolate the benefits of the pro-people policies of the state government at the ground level.’

Born in Chalela village of Patiala district in an academicians’ family, he was the gold medalist in Electronics and Communication Engineering and had secured 7th rank in UPSC Civil Services examinations.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Secretary, Verma was looking after Home, Industry and Commerce; Legal and Legislative Affairs, Information Technology and Investment Promotion departments charge.

Verma had also served in Rural Development,  Excise and Taxation, Financial Commissioner, and as the Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda,  Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts.

 

Outgoing CS Janjua, other senior officials as DK Tiwari, Kumar Rahul, Malwinder Singh Jaggi, Vipul Ujwal, Ramvir, Sonali Giri, Isha Kalia, Gauri Parasher Joshi and Puneet Goyal were present on the occasion.
