700 Indian students facing deportation in Canada: Punjab Min writes to S Jaishankar

As more than 700 Indian students mostly Punjabis are facing deportation from Canada owing to immigration fraud, Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday called on the Indian government to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Dhaliwal sought to resolve the deportation cases of Indian students at the earliest in a letter written to the Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Dhaliwal said Jaishankar should intervene to ensure that these students should not be deported and they should be considered for work permits as per their visas.

He stated that he sought time for meeting with S Jaishankar to raise the issue personally and called for making strict laws to curb human trafficking in the future.

He also urged Indian Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah to collaborate with the Punjab government to nab and bring fake travel agents to book.

He also urged people of the state not to fall for fraud travel agents while sending their wards to study in foreign countries.
