2,450 British nationals rescued from Sudan in longest western evacuation

With last flight carrying British nationals departing the war-torn country of Sudan, the UK on wednesday night completed longest and largest evacuation by any western nation.

British government has evacuated more than 2,450 people and their wards in 30 flights since military conflict erupted in Sudan.

Apar from this, the UK government has also evacuated more than 1,200 people from countries US, Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, Germany and Australia.

The UK government has also vowed to provide 5 million pounds aid to aid people who are fleeing the war torn country.

Till date, the government has contributed more than 250 million pounds in humanitarian aid in the last 5 years.

Commenting on the development, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said the government has brought back 2,450 British nationals safely from Sudan.

“We remain focused on supporting those who are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and continue to press for a long-term ceasefire,” he added.

UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace expressed gratitude to Armed forces for safely evacuating British nationals.
